Crafts and Exercise

At our center, we are passionate about enhancing the lives of seniors through engaging activities. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to have fun while putting their life skills to use. That’s why we have designed programs that cater to all abilities and skill levels, through simple projects and exercises. Our goal is to help improve balance, strength, and unleash creativity, all while having a great time. So why not join us and experience the benefits for yourself?

Puzzles

Five Reasons to Play Puzzles

1) To calm anxiety and curb the obsessive thoughts.

2) To try and make sense when the rest of their life might be chaotic.
3) To get into a meditative state and find order and happiness.
4) To give themselves a great dose of challenge every single day.
5) These are fun, relaxing, addictive, and worth every minute.

Woodcarving

Free Woodcarving Lessons

The Commanche Peak Woodcarvers is a group of local carvers that are always looking for people to carve with and receive an introduction to wood carving.  Even if you don’t carve you are welcome to stop by and see what they do!

Big Screen Bingo

We have lots of fun and are set up to encourage everyone to participate. If you have hearing or visual issues NO PROBLEM. We use a large screen to electronically display the called BINGO numbers, so no one is left out. We play several different BINGO games and with each win your name is written on a ticket and put in our drawing pool to be drawn the last BINGO day of each month. The more you patriciate and win the greater your chances are of being a WINNER!.

Dominoes and 42

Texas 42 or simply just 42 is a trick-taking game which uses a double 6 domino set. The game is also referred to as that “national game of Texas,” where it is held in high esteem and many towns have local tournaments. The game was developed in Garner, Texas by two local boys, William Thomas and Walter Earl.

Chess

  1. Chess for All – Anyone can play this game. Small kids play this game to develop their mental skills whereas senior citizens play this game to have fun and pass their time in a productive way. This game has no barriers to play, even handicapped, blind people or people having mental disorders like alzheimers play this game.
  2. No major investment – You just need to buy the chessboard. One can learn the basics of the game by taking knowledge from the internet which is completely free.
  3. Indoor game – Outdoor games have the danger to be interrupted by external events. Chess can be played throughout the year with no worries.
  4. Both Individual game and Team game! – Chess is individual game but the pieces on the chessboard is your team and you need to include each of them while playing to win the game. So this game provides the experience and at the same time develops the qualities of both individual and team game.
  5. Mental Gym – Playing Chess exercises your brain. You need to think a lot in order to make strategies, prevent opponent’s ideas, to make decisions etc. This keeps your brain active and helps in a number of ways.
  6. Bring a friend! Make sure you have someone to play with.
